WOW!
We knew today would be full of pleasant surprises, but, as usual, we had no idea how wonderful they would be! Today Gina exhibited purposeful movement of her right leg...when it came off the footrest of her chair she put it right back on! She knows what day, month, and year it is...and she was able to correctly show what the weather outside was like.
She even knew that in 2 days it'll be her 18th birthday! She not only continues to win at Connect 4, but has now proven her prowess at UNO too! She was able to stand in the parallel bars 3 times (for a few minutes each time) and do a puzzle while standing! When she got back to her room for a break, she even got a massage!
The doctors switched her trach tube down to a size 4 (the smallest size) and are talking about getting it out completely (maybe by the beginning of next week). She's also been on regular "room" air since Saturday and is doing fine. No more O2! She's also looking to the right easily now (this wasn't even possible 4 days ago). :-).
So much improvement all in only one day! Stay tuned for more successes tomorrow!
Proud Mom,
Mimi

Oh Gina I wish I could have been there, you do the hard things so spontainously without even thinking and that's just what your supposed to do. I am so proud of you, keep it up and you'll be up dancing around the room in no time. Love, Grandma Roz
WOW Gina...I knew you could work that right leg...are you playing tricks with us again?
:-)!!! I have been working on a surprise for you. I hope you will like it. Tomorrow there is supposed to be lots of snow...SNOW DAY (I hope!), but have to get up early and listen to the radio to be sure. Keep on working hard. You can and will do it. Life has such wonderful and amazing things awaiting you and this experience will somehow be helpful. How, I am not sure, but every challenge overcome helps one to grow and succeed...overcoming adversity makes you a winner every time. You are definitely a winner! Love you lots and lots!
Nancy
PS...I am so glad you humour your Papa. He just LOVES Mark Twain:-)!

Gina:
It's way cool to see you gaining on your rehab! It sucks, but keep grinding away one rep at a time...each rep is one step closer to being done!
You're fortunate have a "helicopter mom" (meant very POSITIVELY, Mimi) hovering over you, Paul and the med staff to ensure you are getting the best possible care...and to ensure that you aren't slacking...
Paul, at Gina's rate of progress, it won't be long before you'll have the wonderful sound of STEREO females yapping in both ears again!
JD
Hi Gina, Mimi & Paul. What an eventful day for you! I imagine you are worn out after doing all that work and doing it so well. Keep it up and soon you will be back in your own home and being with your friends again. Much love and prayer Aunt Janie

yes jd, there's nothing quite like the sound of females yapping...in STEREO. But if it's these two females, i'll take that anyday (with some Tylenol of course).
Gina's been doing great today, but I won't spoil Mimi's message for tonight(Tues)...
Thanks to everybody for your messages, keep them coming-it gives Gina strength.

Hi Gina! I meant to send you a Happy Birthday message yesterday. My birthday is on the 12th and I ate a piece of cake for you. I probably shouldn't as at my age it will land and stay on my butt. But for you, it was worth it! I read your blog and it sounds like you had a nice birthday too! You turned 18 but I still will call you a snot nose kid!! And I mean that in a loving way. Glad to hear that you are doing better. All you have to do is listen to your doctors and do what they say so you will recover. Just know that not a day goes by that I don't think about you and pray that you will be able to come home soon. Geneva and I are waiting to see when you can have visitors. We would like to see you.
Love you and miss you,
Susan M. (your Kohl's Mom)
