Walking Up that Mountain...Literally!

Well, I thought other days have been exciting, but this might be the most exciting day yet!!! Where should I begin??? I guess I'll start at the beginning...in the morning!

Our morning started out much the same as the other mornings...getting up way before we wanted to...but that's about all that didn't change! During physical therapy Gina was using her core strength and playing yahtzee against Ansley (the therapy dog), when she decided to start collecting and rolling the dice with her right hand!!!! (This is the arm that just started moving about 2 weeks ago!). Then, she played Sequence dice using both hands and having a 1 1/2 pound weight on her left hand! For speech she tried to yell "STOP" at some imaginary snowboarders who were being unsafe. It only came out as a loud whisper, but the intent was certainly there! (I'll turn her into a patroller yet!).

Gina also ate some pureed food today for lunch (the first "real" food she's had since her accident). She had mashed potatoed w/gravy, applesauce, and sprite. After lunch Gina decided to raise the bar......wayyyyyy up! She walked (only pushing a wheeled table) 75 yards.....twice!!!! Forget trying to walk in the parallel bars...she just gets right down to business!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For dinner she had mac & cheese, chicken marinara, peaches, and iced tea....yummy! She did well with it and seems to enjoy eating a little bit of food.

But wait...that's not all....she also started writing with her right hand!!!! She wrote "I love mom" and "I walked mom" clearly. That's right folks....one amazement after another.....if she does nothing new the rest of the week.....that's fine with me.....but I doubt Gina will settle for that!!!!!!!!

Hugs,
Mimi

Question of the day? Who Yatzeed first, Gina or Ansley?
Good things always happen to good people, KEEP IT UP GINA!
DAG mac and cheese, I'm firing up the grill when ever you want some real food that everyone loves. At least they say that to spare my feelings.

The charcoal is hot when ever you say.

Hang in there, Let Ansley win at least once. Thinking of you always!

I am encouraged everyday I read the updates about your progress Gina. Note I said encouraged-not surprised. You are an amazing young lady with a fighting spirit and such a passion for life I have no doubts you'll continue to progress by leaps and bounds. Keep it up-and know that there are so many folks behind you.

God Bless-

Mr. Witt

Gina
It sounds like you are coming around great . I have been printing your blog out evey day and posting it in the learning center room. I hope you enjoyed seeing what Air Bear did last Sat. at the Mt.
I hope this comes through because I have tried before, but always gave up.
Since you are being persistent I thought that I should try harder also.

As a veteran of physical therapy (the RECEIVING end), I can empathize with the amount of work you are doing - keep it up!

As part of your speech therapy, maybe you can whisper,"C'mon Mom, quit watching me and get off your butt and join me!"

You're in our thoughts and prayers!

Hey Gina,
I just head about your accident recently and I am so glad that there is this website so I can find out how you are doing. It sound like you are doing much better then you were and I am so happy for that. You are one of the most amazing people I have met in my life and I know you will keep going though those hurdles. Just know I am always here for you.
Love always,
