Exciting Day!
So much happened yesterday, but I'll try to stick to the highlights. First of all she kept her eyes open most of the day and was even looking at things intermittently. She's also following commands a little more often. We found out that Gina would be having surgery today (Friday) to replace her breathing and feeding tubes (this isn't permanent, and it'll make everything easier for Gina). It should take about 2 hours for everything and will decrease chance of infection and increase opportunity for mobility (among many other benefits). Last night Gina was watching her new portable DVD player...she was actually watching the movie!
Every day there seems to be a little more improvement. I'll let everyone know when it'll be ok to come see Gina...but we have no idea when that might be. We're waiting for her to be able to communicate a little and for her to be able to follow commands with some consistency (even though her eyes are open during the day, the determination that she's awake still hasn't been made). Please be patient and understand that we are only doing what's best for Gina. Keep the love coming...we share all of this with Gina and she really seems to enjoy it.
Much love,
Mimi

Paul & Mimi (and you, too, Gina, since this blog is mainly for you!)...it is totally excellent that you are beginning to really feel better. All of us following your recovery via this blog are praying hard for you! Keep it going!
...Mimi, did you know your skis handle better on the park jumps than they do on the rail features? It seems like the edges kinda get dinged up and pulled away from the base when they hit the rails.
The jumps only delaminated one tip, so you're in good shape there! Hey, Paul...don't you have some skis that need tuned?
Hugs,
JD
Mimi,
Oh yeah, you poles aren't very durable, either...
(MWAhahaha...)
Gina, I knew you could do it. My family and I are praying for you. Keep up the good work. I hope to see you soon.

Yeah Gina!
This is great news! I am so happy to read this blog today. Keep up the good effort kido. I can't wait for what's next! Sorry about all the tubes & stuff but if it makes things better in the long run then why not get poked and prodded a little more. Compare it to learning how to snowboard but with good meds to ease the pain afterwards.
I hope your Mom let you watch a good movie! I vote for Caddy Shack for your next feature. Have another good night!
Mimi & Paul, I am really happy for you two as well. I know that this has been a tough time but it looks like your prayers are being answered! I hope you have a even more successful weekend. Be sure to take care of yourselves as well.
Lots of hugs and prayers from sunny and warm Alabama!

Alright Gina !
Great Progress, I know all the prayers are working. We are all awaiting your next advancement.
And Mimi... I dont think you have to worry about your skis. I overheard JD say he couldn't wear them as the colors would clash with his baby powder blue colored boots.
Love to ALL

Hi Gina, I am so glad to hear everything went good today and though your probably worn out I bet you'll feel so much better to get rid of all those tubes in your face and now you can really smile and show those beautiful pearly whites. I heard about your portable DVD player your friends at Mad River got for you, wow! How nice. Now I have to find out what kind of movies you like. Love you so much Gina, Grandma Roz
Dearest Gina,
It was so wonderful to see your pretty face with no tubes!! You seemed to be resting so well too. Papa and I are so grateful for such excellent docs and nurses! They have been so caring and professional and really are the BEST. The nursing staff is also very impressed with your mom amd dad's dedication to you...well duh...they adore you as both I and your Papa do too.
We got you some more movies to watch when you have time :-) and will be bringing a super surprise for you soon. Rest tonight, Darling, we will see you tomorrow.
