Being Patient
Well, yesterday was a test of our patience. They removed the pressure sensor from her head and all went very well. The docs also decided they would try and remove her ventilation tubes and see if she could still breathe on her own. They knew that there was some chance that she wouldn't be able to adequately protect her airway due to her neurological status and have to be re-intubated.
After Gina had tried to get her breathing under control for a few hours, it was decided that she would need to have the tubes put back in. They also discovered that she has aspiration pneumonia primarily in her left lung, but a little in her right lung too. They're treating her for that now with the hopes that we can get it cleared up quickly before it takes hold. Gina rested comfortably all of last night, so everything was uneventful and I was able to get 5 hours of sleep! I feel like a new woman!
Gina, Paul, and I are enjoying reading the blog mail that everyone is sending. Please keep it up...it's a wonderful way for all three of us to wind down (and have a few good laughs) at the end of the day!
Everyone take care....we're so lucky to have people like you in our lives!

Gina, Paul & Mimi:
A number of years ago, somebody counted the promises in the Bible and totaled up 7,474. These promises grab the reader and say, "Believe me! Accept me! Hold on to me!"
And of all the promises in the Bible, the ones that often mean the most are the promises that offer hope at the end of affliction. Those promises that tell us, "It's worth it. Walk with Me. Trust Me. Wait with Me. I will reward you."
As for me, I trust in you, O
Lord,I say, "You are my God."
(Psalm 31:14)
On a lighter note, Mimi, I'm glad you feel like a new woman after getting some sleep...now, about that shower...hee hee
Much love,
JD & family

Hill update as of last night hard packed/icie. In other words slide on your bottom fast!! Last night the crazy BOARDERs were lying down on their boards, Building snowman on Deer Run and one girl was boarding in shorts no leg covers or pants!!! Now Gina if your mom would of saw you doing any of this I hope she would at least tell you put your pants ON!! Sorry to hear that Gina some complications on the tube removal, but I hope that time will help to correct that. Keep strong and maybe a shower would be good for Paul and Mimi. That way Gina won't have to smell the BO. Lets us know if you need anything. Tom A

Gina -- I'm sure you look just as beautiful with those tubes, cuz you are such a beautiful girl, you look great in anything, but once they get those lungs completely clear, I'm sure your determination to breathe on your own will set in. Kinda like you can't get to the top of the mountain until the lift chair is working!! Baby steps girl....you can do it....you've come so far already!!
Thoughts and prayers continue!

Glad you were able to get a little rest (and Paul was able to go home and take a shower). The progress Gina is making is very encouraging - tell her to keep it up!Mary Kay
hey gina its matt travis. i hear you are getting better. i know you will get through it. your a tough girl =] hope you get better soon!
Hi Gina, If you were here I know just where you'd be, curled up with a pillow laying just as close to the fire as you could get. It's cold, cold, cold. I just read some of the messages from your family and friends and you have so many that are praying for you. How wonderful, God places people everywhere in our lives who can call on Him when we can't, or when we think we can't. A lot of good things are going on and soon we'll all see the results of all our prayers. I hope to come to see you tomorrow after work. I wish I could stay there with you and your Mom and Dad all the time but I think the staff would have a cow if we'd all move in, ha. Love you Gina, Grandma Roz
Hey Gina, i hope you get well very soon! im so glad your mom got some sleep, next time tell her its shower time =]. Dont worry about school, school is boring like usual! Im still praying for you!!

Hey This is Brooke and Tilly's coming home on Friday and is asking when we can see Gina, so any ideas on how soon that will be?
Hey Gina, love hearing of your endeavers. Some more than others.
Like duping mom with the squeeze my hand, that was a good one, keep it up.
retubulate, well, was good you went on your own for so long But wow it brought back a flashback when I was tubulated.
Was a hot day at buckeye steel, I was totally unaware of my surroundings. While trying to fix a hydraulic leak, I crouched down quickly. Unbenounced to me, there was an oil can behind me. You know the kind with the big, long spouts.
OUCH! I got tubulated.
I know you and your parents are going through so very much. But remember we all love you so so much. Hang in there girl!!!!!!!
name withheld to protect my dignity.
Mimi, Paul and Gina,
Keep the faith. Hopefully the road is shorter than longer but you all are capable of the walk, so keep on walking. It is great to have this blog. It helps keep everyone connected. My prayers are with you all.
Hey! I'm glad everything is still going well! You are all still in my prayers!
Kristen
Actually, I'm thinking no shower for Mimi might be a good thing...that way the rankness will wake up Gina and she'll say, "OH GROSS!" Or maybe she wasn't breathing well on her own without the tubes because she couldn't stand Mimi's smell! It's a wonder she doesn't gag her tubes right out of herself!
Gina, Paul & Mimi,
Everyday is a day closer to recovery. Even though you may not see it the Lord is working healing your body. Keep your positive attitudes and I'll see you Saturday.
Love Aunt Elaine
Hi
Talked to Tim last night and read your blog today and it sounds like Gina is making progress. Every little step is a good thing. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers. Last night we got a lot of wet powder in St. Marys. It actually flooded the lane.
